Pitching aces Doolin, Bothwell named Times Co-Player of The Year
It had been a few years since they’d first met as up-and-coming pitchers in the Hammond Chiefs travel ball program — one on the 13-year old team, the other on the 14-year old team — a long enough time that Andrean’s Michael Doolin and Boone Grove’s Ty Bothwell didn’t immediately remember each other.
“I saw him on his unofficial visit to IU (last fall),” said Bothwell, a freshman with the Hoosiers. “There was this big kid. I was talking with him and I asked him, ‘What’s your name?’ He said, ‘Mike Doolin.’ I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me? Where did this come from? He definitely wasn’t this tall before.’ I was watching videos of him and it was insane. When did he become a beast?”
At 6-foot-3, 200 pounds, Doolin is an imposing presence on the hill and a night-and-day contrast in stature to the 5-8, 160-pound Bothwell.
