(Valparaiso, IN) Boone Grove High School served aces in last nights game against Covenant Christian at home. The Wolves won 3-1 on senior night, sending Olivia Hendzel, Emily Zoll, and Abigail Foster out in style. Boone Grove’s come from behind win is the first game of three this week, leading up to sectional play.
The Wolves dropped the first set 25-11, when asked about the first set head coach Matt Bein jokingly commented, “there’s a tradition here at Boone Grove where the seniors pick their positions for the first set. So we had two seniors select to be setters (Foster and Zoll) who are neither setters, and our actual setter (Hendzel) chose to be libero, so we worked on that a little bit during the week but it didn’t look nearly that awful”
After dropping the first, Boone Grove “got everybody back to their natural homes” and dominated the next three sets. Bein commented, “we got our hitters back hitting, our setters back setting, and our liberos back ‘libero-ing’, and it looked a lot more like us, which I expected”. The Wolves were well past double digits in aces in the last three sets, dominating from every angle en route to double-digit wins in all three sets.
Boone Grove has two more games this week before sectional play starts next week. When asked on how the team can improve in these next two games before sectional play starts, coach Bein commented “We have to speed up our tempo offensively so we can compete against tougher teams in sectionals and beyond, happen if we win, we have to focus more on tough front lines, and then defensively we are still a bit out of position in the back row, so we will be working on that as well.”
The Wolves take on River Forest next, at River a Forest in their second game of three this week.
